Bhubaneswar: The court of the special Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Bhubaneswar on Friday allowed the CBI to take Suman Chattopadhyay, editor of a leading Bengali daily, on a three-day remand.
Chattopadhyay, who is also the director of Disha Productions and Media Private Limited (DPMPL), was arrested by the CBI on Thursday in connection with this involvement in the I-Core Group chit fund scam.
The central investigating agency had begun an investigation into the I-Core Group of Companies in 2014 following allegations that the company had raised over Rs 3,000 crore from people by offering high returns on investments.
During the investigation, the CBI had found that a portion of the company’s funds was diverted to the DPMPL as well the personal account of Chattopadhyay.
The CBI had also interrogated Chattopadhyay’s wife Kasturi in connection with the Saradha Group chit fund case in 2017.
