Chit fund scam: Justice MM Das Commission submits 3rd interim report
Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: The Justice MM Das Commission of Inquiry, which is investigating the multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha, submitted its third interim report to the home department on Tuesday.
According to the report, the Commission has identified 41,519 small depositors after investigating cases filed against 176 companies. It has recommended refund of money to these small depositors and suggested means to be adopted for this purpose.
“In the course of the inquiry, I had advised chit fund companies to refund money to the depositors. Some of these companies have done so. As of now, 1,200-1,300 people have got back their deposits,” Justice Das told mediapersons.
The Commission has so far examined 60,941 affidavits filed by small depositors. It would be examining another 137,388 affidavits in the fourth phase.
“We have identified complaints against 342 firms. We are serving them notices in phases. After they appear before us and keep their stand, we will identify the depositors,” he said.
The Commission would complete the process of examining all the complaints by its fifth interim report, he added.
