Bhubaneswar: Veteran Odia cine star Aparajita Mohanty joined BJP at
the state party headquarters here on Monday.
Flanked by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on her side, Aparajita
praised the BJP and said she will work with other members of the party
for a better Odisha.
In 2014, Aparajita contested for the Cuttack Lok Sabha seat on a
Congress ticket. Recently, she quit the grand old party. Her joining
the saffron party came close on the heels of another Ollywood star
Mahasweta Ray entering the BJP.
“I am happy for the warm welcome that has been extended to me. I would
thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Dharmendra
Pradhan who are working for development of the state,” said Aparajita
after being inducted into the party.
“I have worked for 35 years in the movie industry. Politics is a new
beginning for me. I hope I will learn a lot,” she added.
Aparajita has acted in several hit Odia movies like Jaiphula,Sankha
Sindura, Mamata Mage Mula, Jor Jar Mulak Tar and Rupa Gaonra Suna
Kania. She is the wife of yesteryear Ollywood superstar Uttam Mohanty
and mother of actor Babusan. Her grandfather Abdus Subhan Khan was a
minister long ago.
