Berhampur: Special Vigilance court at Odisha’s Berhampur city has convicted civil supply inspector of Aska Prakash Chandra Patra in Ganjam district in disproportionate assets case and sentenced him to imprisonment for 3 years and imposed a penalty of Rs 20,000. In case of non-payment of fine, he has been ordered to undergo imprisonment for 6 more months.
The Berhampur Vigilance had conducted raids on the house of Patra following allegation of having properties disproportionate to his known sources of income on December 3, 1997 when he was working as supply inspector at Paralakemundi in Gajapati district.
During the raids, the Vigilance officials had unearthed Patra’s properties worth Rs 7,74,592. Out of this, Patra could not account for the assets worth Rs 3,53,962.
The Vigilance had arrested Patra and registered a case. It filed chargesheet in the court in the case against Patra in the Vigilance court on March 31, 2000.
After hearing the case on Saturday, the court announced imprisonment to Patra on the basis of evidence produced by the Vigilance and statements of the witnesses.
