New Delhi: Two days after ending a successful agitation that compelled the Central government to accept all its demands, including resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has threatened to launch fresh protests.

The two-and-a-half-month-old outfit, launched online by Abhijeet Dipke, on Monday accused the Centre of violating the agreement reached at Constitution Club on July 25 in the presence of Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh.

CJP spokesperson Abhishek Ranka alleged that the government had reneged on its assurance that no punitive action would be taken against protesters across India.

“We are observing a complete breach of the agreement regarding no police action against the protestors. Hundreds of students have been arrested in Bihar and Bengal, and hundreds are being surveilled and harassed in Delhi and other states. Multiple reports are emerging in Delhi regarding the detention of volunteers supporting protestors with logistics,” Ranka wrote on X.

“We demand that all the FIRs against the protestors be immediately withdrawn, students be released and no future FIRs be filed… failing which we will be forced to sit on protest again,” Ranka warned.

He also demanded a written agreement from the government regarding legal cases and a timeline for its implementation.

Earlier in the day, another CJP spokesperson Saurav Das had highlighted reports of students and protesters allegedly being detained or arrested in Assam, West Bengal and Bihar.

“Our decision to suspend the nationwide protest was taken in good faith and solely on the basis of the government’s assurance that it would stand by its word,” Ranka said.

He called upon the Centre, particularly Nadda and Singh, to “immediately honour the assurance given to us by securing the release of those detained and by directing that no coercive or retaliatory action is taken against any protester anywhere in the country.”

He reiterated that all FIRs be withdrawn.

Delhi Police yet to receive direction

Delhi Police have not yet received any direction from the government to withdraw cases registered against protesters, CNN-News18 reported citing sources.

Twenty cases were reportedly registered in connection with the violence at Jantar Mantar and during July 20 march to Parliament.

Once the necessary order is issued, Delhi Police will move a proposal before the Lieutenant Governor (LG) seeking permission to withdraw the cases. After the LG’s approval, police will inform the concerned courts they don’t wish to continue with the prosecution.

The final decision on the withdrawal of cases will, however, rest with the courts.
