Clash Erupts Between BJP And BJD Workers Over ‘Contract Work’ In Odisha’s Balangir

Balangir: Several people were injured after violent clashes broke out between BJD and BJP workers allegedly over contract work in Patnagarh block of Odisha’s Balangir district during early hours of Sunday.

According to sources, police have detained BJD Patnagarh block chairman Nilakantha Bag and two other workers of the regional party – Madhav and Jayachandra, in this connection.

BJP leader Swarup Barua sustained critical injuries in the scuffle and he along with one of his supporters is currently undergoing treatment at Balangir’s Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital.

The clash took place after Swarup was allegedly attacked by BJD workers led by Nilakanta, when the former was having a discussion with a local block official, sources added.

While police are tight-lipped on the matter, sources said a case has been registered in this matter and three people have been arrested. Besides, CCTV footage is being examined to ascertain the identity of all others involved in violence.
