Class 1 To 7 Students May Again Be Promoted Without Exams In This State
Ranchi: For the second consecutive academic session, students of classes 1 to 7 from Jharkhand government schools are likely to be promoted without having to write any exam.
Schools all over India had to shut down in the middle of March last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Jharkhand government has allowed schools to reopen from class 8 from March 1, but no decision has been taken for class 1 to 7.
Last year, around 32 lakh students of lower classes were promoted sans annual exams after Jharkhand clamped lockdown in the state from March 22, two days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced national lockdown.
According to officials, Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) is planning to promote students for the next (2021-22) session and drawing up a strategy to make up losses of students, Hindustan Times reported.
“Discussions are going on. However, no final decision has been taken yet,” JEP’s State Programme Officer Abhinav Kumar.
“Schools have not reopened yet. So conducting examinations in this situation is not possible. Therefore, instead of examination, a plan for baseline assessment of students is being discussed.”
