Balangir: In a shocking incident, a Class IX girl student was allegedly gangraped by her classmates inside a school in Odisha’s Balangir district and five accused have been detained by the police in connection with the incident.
As per preliminary information, the incident allegedly took place at the school located in Turekela police station limits around 4-5 days ago. It came to light after a video of the crime went viral. The boys allegedly committed the offence after a tuition session.
Five juveniles, stated to be classmates of the girl, were detained after one of her relatives who saw the viral video approached the Balangir Superintendent of Police (SP) and lodged a complaint.
Following direction from the SP, the five minors were detained by the Turekela police and further investigation is in progress.
While no formal complaint by the victim or her family has so far been lodged with the police, an investigation is stated to have been initiated following the SP’s direction. The juveniles are being questioned by the police.
Family members of the girl are yet to comment on the alleged incident. Further details are awaited.
