New Delhi: A Class XII student died after setting herself on fire at a government school in Krishna Nagar area of Delhi’s Shahdara district, on Saturday afternoon.
Police are suspecting it to be a case of suicide after having found a three-page note from the 17-year-old student’s school bag during preliminary investigation.
According to teachers, police also found some suspicious items from her bag, but the nature of the items has not yet been confirmed.
The girl’s burnt body was found in a severely burnt condition behind the Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya’s guard room.
The student reportedly set herself ablaze by pouring petrol-like substance on her body.
According to the student’s sister, she saw her going to the school happily. “I don’t know what happened… The school called us around 1.40 pm,” the sister said.
Cops were alerted after receiving a PCR call regarding a fire at the school.
Krishna Nagar police station personnel reached the spot and took charge.
A crime scene team was called to inspect the location and collect evidence.
The motive behind the death has not yet been identified.
