Puri: With the Puri temple set to reopen for devotees from outside district from January 3, the district administration and municipal officials took the opportunity of New Year to convey a message on cleanliness.
On Friday, a cleanliness drive was organised under ‘Mo Dham Mo Garba’ programme, at the Grand Road here.
The drive was carried out at six places – Shri Jagannath Temple office, Marchikot, Market Square, Hospital Square, Badasankha and near Gundicha temple.
The drive, which was started from Jagannath Temple office at 6 am, saw participation of shop owners and locals besides the civic staff.
The owners of the shops along the Bada Danda (Grand Road) took an oath not to throw garbage on the road.
Some sweepers were also felicitated on the occasion.
District Collector Balwant Singh and Puri Municipality officials also lent a hand.
An awareness Rath also taken out to spread the messages on cleanliness.
The ‘Mo Dham Mo Garba’ campaign calls for removal of legacy waste, adopting segregation of waste, pledge of purity, cleaning and beautification of the garbage vulnerable spots.
