Bhubaneswar: A major disaster was averted on Saturday following timely detection of a hot axle (overheating of a spindle passing through the centre of a wheel) by the guard in the general second class coach of Chennai-Howrah Mail Special, carrying 90 passengers.
According to East Coast Railway (ECoR), the officials took prompt action and detached the coach (second from the rear) at Sompet. The passengers were then accommodated in other coaches till Bhubaneswar.
At Bhubaneswar railway station, a general second class coach will be attached and passengers will be again shifted to this coach, it added.
