Balangir: A couple had a miraculous escape on Tuesday when their moving car suddenly burst into flames on the busy Bhawanipatna-Khariar State Highway near Sundhimunda village in Odisha’s Balangir district.
According to sources, the incident took place at around 11 am when the husband-wife duo was travelling from Bhawanipatna to Khariar in Nuapada district for some work. Though caught unawares, they parked the car on the side of the road before hurriedly exiting.
Locals spotted them and rushed to their aid. Bystanders also informed Sindhekela police and fire services.
Fire services team reached the spot and contained the blaze, but the car was completely gutted by then. The burning car caused temporary traffic disruption on the highway until the flames were brought under control.
Though a preliminary probe suggested a short circuit may have caused the fire, Sindhikela police have launched an investigation to determine the exact reason behind the incident.
