Manchester: The fifth and final Test between India and England was thrown into uncertainty after another member of the visitors’ support staff tested COVID-19 positive on Thursday, the eve of the series finale at Old Trafford here.
Physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar’s sample during Wednesday evening’s testing has come positive, following which Team India’s training session for Thursday has been cancelled.
ESPNCricinfo reported that all members of the contingent have been asked to stay in their hotel rooms until further notice.
Parmar had helped Indian players in recovery sessions on Wednesday evening, so no chances are being taken. Both the Indian and English camps are hoping that none of the players has been infected with the coronavirus.
Indian head coach Ravi Shastri tested positive for coronavirus a few days ago, and is in isolation. Bowling coach Bharat Arun, fielding coach R Sridhar and Nalin Patel are also in isolation.
An official statement from England and Wales Cricket Board and Board of Control for Cricket in India is expected later in the evening.
If the final match is cancelled due yo COVID concerns, India will win the series 2-1.
