Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led the state in celebrating Constitution Day on Tuesday by participating in a number of programmes, including a padyatra in Bhubaneswar.

The padyatra, themed ‘Ama Samvidhan, Ama Swabhiman’, was organised by the Sports and Youth Affairs department from the AG Square to Capital Hospital Chhak in the capital city.

Apart from Majhi, several Ministers and other dignitaries also attended the padayatra which started from the AG Square. The Chief Minister and others garlanded the statue of the Dr BR Ambedkar at AG Square as the nation is also celebrating 75th anniversary of the Constitution.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the Constitution is has given respect and rights to everyone irrespective of caste, creed and religion. It has given equal rights to all sections of society, including. “Therefore, we should express our gratitude to the framers of our Constitution,” he said.

Hailing the Constitution as the main source of unity and integrity of the country, the CM said everyone needs to follow the fundamental duties enshrined in the Constitution. All must be conscious of the sovereignty, unity and solidarity of the country at every moment.

“We must also show respect to our national flag and national anthem. We must also work responsibly to protect the country’s heritage,” he said.

Over 1,000 people participated in the padayatra organised to celebrate the Constitution Day.

It may be noted that November 26 is celebrated as Constitution Day every year. India adopted its Constitution on November 26, 1949 and it was implemented on January 26, 1950. In 2015, the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment decided to celebrate November 26 as Constitution Day every year to promote the values of the Constitution among the citizens.
