Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will lead Odisha’s high-level industrial delegation at India Chem 2026 in Mumbai on October 22, showcasing the state’s growing potential as a primary chemical and petrochemical manufacturing hub.
During his two-day visit, CM Majhi will attend the event’s inaugural session and participate in a executive CEO Roundtable chaired by Union Minister for Chemicals, Fertilisers, and Health & Family Welfare, J P Nadda. Odisha will join host state Maharashtra alongside Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu to showcase state-level industrial ecosystems. The CM is also scheduled to hold one-to-one meetings with representatives of more than 20 major companies, focusing on potential investments, industrial expansion, downstream manufacturing and the setting up of new ventures in Odisha, a CMO release said on Wednesday.
A presentation on the state’s coal gasification project will form a key highlight, underscoring an emerging industrial opportunity. Odisha may also announce plans for a dedicated large-scale chemical industrial park to promote value addition and attract investments in chemicals, petrochemicals, plastics and packaging, it stated.
While states like Gujarat and Maharashtra have traditionally dominated the sector, Odisha is leveraging its established base in mining and metallurgy to accelerate downstream diversification. “Our participation at India Chem 2026 will provide an opportunity to engage directly with leading companies, present the state’s investment opportunities, and explore partnerships for future growth. With our industrial infrastructure, progressive policies and resource advantages, we are working to build a competitive ecosystem for chemical and petrochemical industries. The proposed dedicated large chemical industrial park and our focus on coal gasification will further strengthen this effort and open up new avenues for investment, value addition and employment generation,” said Industries secretary Hemant Sharma.
He also noted that a recent groundbreaking and inauguration ceremony in Jajpur underscored the sector’s potential. Of 53 projects, nine (five inaugurations and four groundbreakings) represent investments of Rs 4,136 crore and are expected to create 1,508 jobs.
The release added that Odisha has attracted 56 companies in the sector over the past two years with proposed investments of ₹1,93,087.94 crore and an employment potential of 1,12,324 people. Of these, 27 projects have been grounded or inaugurated, involving investments of ₹60,825.34 crore and potential employment for 35,351 people.
