Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled the statue of former Legislative Assembly Speaker Kishore Mohanty in Brajrajnagar through virtual mode on Friday.
Speaking via video conferencing, Patnaik said that Kishore’s greatest identity was his and, cutting across party politics, he was everyone’s favourite.
Starting politics at the grassroots level, Mohanty was the government’s Chief Whip, MP, chairman of the Western Odisha Development Council, and Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. The Chief Minister praised Mohanty saying that he was an able organiser and played an important role in strengthening the Biju Janata Dal.
Health Minister Naba Kisore Das, who also attended the programme, said he had a close relationship with Mohanty. Mohanty had undertaken several development works as the chairman of the Western Odisha Development Council, Das said.
Alka Mohanty, Brajrajnagar MLA and Mohanty’s wife, Alka Mohanty, expressed her gratitude to the Chief Minister and said that her husband would remain in the hearts of the people of Brajrajnagar and Western Odisha.
