Bhubaneswar: The Special Judge (Coal Cases), Rouse Avenue Courts, Delhi, on Monday awarded four years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) to the directors of a company who were convicted in a case related to the Patrapara coal block allocation in Odisha during 2006.
While imposing a fine of Rs 30 lakh on Adhunik Corporation Ltd, the court awarded the jail terms to its promoters/directors Nirmal Kumar Agarwal and Mahesh Kumar Agarwal along with fine of Rs 30 lakh each. Both are based in Kolkata.
The CBI had registered a case in this connection on September 11, 2014. “The company got the Patrapara coal block allocated by misrepresentation of production capacity as well as other false and forged documents before the 30th Screening Committee. Accordingly, the allocation letter was issued on January 13, 2006, by the Ministry of Coal in favour of Adhunik Corporation Ltd,” the CBI said.
