Coast Guard Tows Research Vessel That Went Adrift In Sea To Odisha’s Paradip Port

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) coordinated the rescue of a research vessel off Paradip coast in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.

The Indian Coast Guard, in a series of tweets on Tuesday, said the Central government’s research vessel, Samudra Kaustubh, had gone adrift in the sea since midnight of October 23-24.

“The ropes held onboard the ship had fallen and got entangled in the propellers. As a result, the engines had stopped functioning and the ship drifted away,” said the Coast Guard.

On being informed about the drifting vessel in the sea, the ICG od district headquarters Odisha launched a rescue operation. Indian Coast Guard ship Amogh set off from Paradip port to the help of the vessel.

“The vessel with 25 crew is being towed to Paradip port. ICG ship Amogh is engaged in the area to assist,” said the Coast Guard in the tweet.
