Coastal Odisha Likely To Experience Heavy Rain From July 3, Says SOA’s Climate Centre

Bhubaneswar: Even as the southwest monsoon has become weak in Odisha with the westerly wind prevailing over eastern India, the state’s coastal and southern region may experience heavy rains from July 3.

A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal triggering heavy rains in the region, according to SOA’s Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) in Bhubaneswar.

“Models indicate the possibility of the cyclonic circulation leading to the formation of a low pressure area along south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coast on July 4,” said the CEC in a release on Saturday.

It may cause moderate to heavy rainfall in the districts of coastal and south Odisha between July 3 and 5 while interior districts may get moderate to heavy precipitation on July 5. Thereafter, rainfall would be scanty over the state from July 6 to 9.

There is probability of another cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas on July 9 which may subsequently cause the formation of another low pressure area on July 10 or 11. The rainfall intensity would further increase in north and interior Odisha from July 9, it said.
