Kendrapada: In an apparent bid to escape the biting cold outside, a spectacled cobra made its way into the bedroom of a family in Kendrapada district to search for a warm place.
Later, the four-foot-long cobra was later rescued by a Snake Helpline volunteer and released in the wild.
According to sources, the snake was spotted sitting on a bed at the house of one Parsuram Behera of Madhusasan village in Garadpur block on Saturday night.
The female members of the household raised a hue and cry and called Snake Helpline.
A little while later, a volunteer, Nalinikanta Das, reached the spot and found a group of spectators peering into the bedroom. When Das entered the room, he was surprised to see the cobra sitting on the bed with its hood fully raised. Few people were also busy recording the scene on mobile cameras.
Das then carefully secured the tail of the deadly cobra with the help of a hook and took it outside. It was later released in a natural habitat away from the village.
Snake Helpline General Secretary Subhendu Mallik said, “The temperature has been falling for the past few days. As snakes are ectothermic (cold blooded), they cannot tolerate winter. Therefore, they go for hibernation during this season. This cobra might have entered the house searching for a warmer place.”
