Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday warned of cold wave conditions in six districts of Odisha, including Cuttack, till January 9 morning.
Yellow warning has been issued for isolated pockets in the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Koraput, Angul, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur. The minimum temperature is unlikely to witness any large change during the next 4 days and thereafter rise by 2-3°C during the subsequent 3 days, it added.
The national forecaster has also issued dense fog for isolated pockets in districts of Boudh, Nayagarh, Koraput and Kandhamal till January 7 morning. Shallow to moderate fog may also occur at one or two places in Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Balasore, Boudh, Nayagarh, Koraput, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts.
In the last 24 hours, Jharsuguda was the coldest place in Odisha at 5.1°C, which was almost 7°C below normal. Rourkela closely followed at 6.6°C, while G Udayagiri in Kandhamal and Kirei in Sundargarh recoded 6.8°C each and the popular hill station Daringbadi shivered at 7.5°C. Other areas in western and interior Odisha where the minimum temperature dropped below 10°C include Sundargarh (7.6°C), Semiliguda in Koraput (8.5°C), Balangir (8.8°C), Keonjhar and Phulbani at 9°C each, Sonepur (9.1°C) and Dhenkanal (9.9°C).
Cuttack, Koraput, Angul and Baripada recorded 10°C each, while the mercury levels in Bhubaneswar stood at 12.9°C. The twin cities saw a drop of 3.5°C and 2.1°C from normal respectively.
