New Delhi: Amid the excitement around their India performance next year and the controversy around the sale of the concert tickets, Coldplay has announced that they will retire after releasing their 12th studio album. Chris Martin confirmed this in a recent chat and mentioned that this would be an opportunity for the musicians to explore personal space outside the band. Coldplay has already released nine albums. Coldplay’s 10th album, Moon Music, will be out on October 4.

Speaking to Apple Music 1, Chris Martin said, “We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real. Having that limit means the quality control is so high right now and for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible, which is great. And so where we could be coasting, we’re trying to improve,” News18 reported.

“There’s only seven Harry Potters. There’s only 12 ½ Beatles’ albums, there’s about the same for Bob Marley, so all our heroes,” Martin explained. The musician told People magazine, “To make an album great as a band, it’s such a lot of wrangling of people, and I want to give the others some of their life for themselves.” Although the band will retire, Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion will continue to collaborate on other projects.

A large section of fans were left highly disappointed when the tickets for the globally popular band’s show were sold out in less than a few minutes. The tickets soon started to get sold via the black market at exorbitant prices; Book My Show’s CEO was recently summoned by the Mumbai Police over allegations of a ticketing scam. Amid this, there is speculation on social media that the concert might get cancelled altogether, News18 reported.

BookMyShow’s CEO, Ashish Hemrajani, and the company’s technical head were summoned on September 27 but failed to appear before the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW). These summons follow a complaint regarding the sale of purportedly fake tickets for the highly anticipated concert in Mumbai. The Mumbai Police has again summoned Hemrajani on September 30 amid the probe.

This investigation is based on the complaint of advocate Amit Vyas, who accused the online ticketing platform of black marketing tickets via scalpers and third-party websites at exorbitant prices. However, in a previous statement, BookMyShow distanced itself from scalpers and urged fans to beware of black market scams.

The Grammy-winning band, known for their timeless hits such as Yellow and Sky Full of Stars, is set to perform in India after eight years in Mumbai on January 18, 19 and 21, 2025, at the iconic D.Y. Patil Sports Stadium.
