Collector Collects Hefty Fine For Littering In Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: A garment shop owner in the city was left ruing his luck after he was fined Rs 10,000 for littering. The hefty fine was imposed by the Ganjam Collector, Vijay Amruta Kulange, in person.

According to reports, the Collector along with his team had gone for a surprise inspection to a market here around 10.30 pm on Thursday.

In a video of the incident uploaded on social media, Kulange is seen reprimanding the owner of ‘Himalaya Handloom’ for litter outside his shop. He then imposed the fine.

The video also shows him asking a woman to take the litter from front of her house to the nearest dustbin.

Berhampur residents have welcomed the Collector’s initiative, saying that such strict actions will deter people from littering on roads and public spaces.
