Cuttack: Newly appointed DG Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on Friday said that serving the people of Odisha with excellent police service would be his top priority, as will be the job of his whole police force.
Khurania, a 1990-batch IPS officer, who took over charge from his batchmate Arun Kumar Sarangi today, added, “The Chief Minister is calling on the police personnel stationed at police stations throughout the State to behave well with general public. Actions will be taken in this regard.”
He hailed Odisha police for the success in battling Maoists and offered deepest condolences to the police personnel who have lost their lives in the fight.
“Their sacrifice will greatly motivate us to end the Maoist threat. I feel proud after taking over the responsibility as head of State police,” the new DGP added.
Maintaining discipline, conducting investigations, and controlling criminal activity are the core duties of police. All these factors will receive special attention, Khurania continued, speaking to press personnel after taking charge.
“We’re determined to get closer to the common people, and make every effort to do so. Priority would be given to reducing crimes and oppression against the weakest segments of society, such as women and children, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes,” he added.
Highlighting the rise in cybercrimes and narcotics, Khurania said that every possible step will be taken to effectively check people involved in these crimes.
