Commerce Student Converts Bicycle Into E-Bike In Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: A Commerce student having no science and technical education has converted a petrol-driven motorcycle into an electric bike.

Driven by the concept of pollution-free electric vehicles, Akshya Dash, who is pursuing MCom at Khallikote College, here, decided to come up with a bike powered by rechargeable battery at a nominal cost.

Akshya, the son of Simanchal Dash, a primary school teacher, and resident of Ramchandrapur in Ganjam district, said he learnt the technology involved in producing e-bike from YouTube and started experimenting with his old bicycle.

It took Akshya seven days to transform the bicycle into an e-bike with a cost of Rs 25,000. “I learnt the concept of electric-bikes from YouTube and then started making the bike. E-bike is very affordable and environment friendly,” Akshya said, who nourished curiosity regarding electronic gadgets since childhood.

He said the battery of the e-bike needs three hours to get fully charged. Once it is charged, the bike can run for about 60 kms without any hassle.

Akshya has also transformed a Scooty of his friend Santosh Kumar Sahu of Ramchandrapur into an e-bike at a cost of Rs 30,000 and a Pulsar motorcycle.

Akshya earlier had experimented with many innovative ideas including remote controlled car, room heater, power bank and others.

On his future plans, Akshya said he wants to make a special bike for the physically challenged persons, automatic charging of the e-bike while running and inverters that can generate power for the bikes.
