Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police cracked the mystery behind the murder of a married woman barely hours after her body was found inside a rented house in Bhimtangi Housing Board Colony Phase-I area here on Monday.
Talking to mediapersons, Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash said the deceased woman has been identified as Priyanka Priyadarshini Sahu, a native of Bandhadiha village of Jajpur district. She was married to Rakesh Sahu of Kuakhia area in 2014.
As Rakesh works in a private company in Bhubaneswar, the couple was staying in a rented house at Bhimatangi with their 3-year-old son.
Revealing details about the murder, the DCP said Rakesh had gone to his office and Priyanka was alone in the house. While at office, Rakesh received a call from his wife but as he was busy with office work, he did not take her call.
“Minutes later, Rakesh received a WhatsApp message. A picture showed his wife lying in a pool of blood. He immediately informed the house owner, who was staying on the first floor. The owner rushed to the ground floor and called Priyanka. As there was no response, he broke open the door and found her lying dead and a man with bleeding injuries on his hand. The owner informed Rakesh and police,” Das said.
Police rushed to the spot and admitted the man to Capital Hospital.
During investigation, police recovered a suicide note from the house in which the man, identifying himself as Jagannath Pradhan of Jajpur district, stated that he and Priyanka had known each other. As they had a strained relationship, he plotted to kill her and her son and commit suicide.
“Finding Priyanka alone in the house, Pradhan barged into her room and killed her with a sharp weapon. Fortunately, her son escaped as he was with the house owner’s family. Later, in an attempt to commit suicide, he consumed poison and cut a portion of his hand with a knife,” the DCP added.
Asked about the nature of relationship the accused had with the deceased, he said the police have recorded the statement of the accused and he will be interrogated.
