Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday announced that the state government has decided to increase the compensation amount for those killed in wild animal attacks to Rs 4 lakh. Earlier, Rs 3 lakh was being provided in such cases.
At a function organised at Jaydev Bhawan here to observe the state-level wildlife week, the chief minister said, “An ex-gratia of Rs 2,000 will be provided for sheep and goats killed by wild animals and Rs 750 in case of lambs.”
The decision was taken in view of losses incurred by villagers owing to the recent attack on sheep and goats in Niali, Jagatsinghpur, Bhanjanagar and several other parts of the state, official sources said.
The event was attended by forest and environment minister Bijayshree Routray, additional chief secretary Suresh Mohapatra and other senior government officials.
