Sangli: Music composer and singer Palash Muchhal has landed in fresh controversy, with a complaint being lodged against him in the Sangli district of Maharashtra, accusing him of cheating a local man of Rs 40 lakh, as reported by news agency PTI.
According to a report published by News18, the police have confirmed that a preliminary probe into the matter is currently underway.
It has been reported that the complaint was lodged by one Vidnyan Mane, a 34-year-old actor and producer. He approached the Sangli SP seeking the registration of an FIR against Muchhal. An initial inquiry has been ordered.
Mane claimed that he first met Muchhal in Sangli on December 5, 2023. During their meeting, the composer and singer allegedly expressed interest in investing in film production. It has been alleged that Mane was offered an opportunity to invest as a producer in Muchhal’s upcoming project titled Nazaria.
It was further alleged in the complaint that the singer promised substantial returns on the investment, stating that Mane could earn a profit of Rs 12 lakh on an investment of Rs 25 lakh once the film was released on OTT platforms. He was allegedly offered a role in the film as well.
Mane has claimed that the two met on multiple occasions following their initial interaction. Mane alleged that he handed over Rs 40 lakh to Muchhal between December 2023 and March 2025, in connection with the project.
The film project was reportedly never completed and when Mane demanded his money back, there was no response from Muchhal, it has been claimed. The composer has issued no statement on the matter yet.
Muchhal made headlines recently following the cancellation of his wedding to Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana. The couple was scheduled to tie the knot on November 23, but the ceremony was postponed after Smriti’s father, Shriniwas Mandhana, was hospitalised due to a heart ailment. The wedding was later called off.
“I have decided to move on in my life and step back from my personal relationship. It’s been very difficult for me to see people react so easily on baseless rumours about something which has been most sacred to me. It’s the most difficult phase of my life, and I will deal with it gracefully, holding on to my beliefs,” Muchhal later wrote amid widespread speculation.
“I truly hope we, as a society, learn to pause before judging someone based on unverified gossip, whose sources are never identified. Our words can wound in ways we may never understand,” he urged people.
Muchhal is known for composing popular tracks such as Tu Hi Hai Aashiqui, Nachle Tu, Naach Basanti, Sasure Ke Kaudy Lag Gaye, Teri Ek Hassi, Musafir, Kinara and Khuda Ke Banday. He has also directed films like Ardh and Kaam Chalu Hai.
