New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The condition of the Puri burn victim, undergoing treatment at AIIMS Delhi, is stable, Puri SP (in-charge) Pinak Mishra informed on Wednesday.
He further stated that the investigation in the case is almost in its final stage. “A DSP rank officer, Kalpana Kauri, who is the investigating officer, along with the officer-in-charge of Balanga police station is in Delhi. They are carrying out a detailed probe and also questioning people concerned to collect evidence in the matter. They will again interact with the victim,” he said.
Mishra said that police are handling the case with utmost sensitivity. “Her health is a priority for us. It is not the right time to speak about the motive behind the incident. We have collected important evidence in the case,” he added.
The 15-year-old was allegedly abducted by three men and set on fire on the banks of Bhargavi river under Balanga police limits in Puri district on July 19 morning while she was on her way to a friend’s house. The girl, who sustained 70% burns in the incident, was airlifted from AIIMS-Bhubaneswar and received at AIIMS-Delhi on July 20.
On July 25, officials from the Odisha CID recorded her statement in the presence of a magistrate, doctors and a family member. The entire process was video-recorded. The victim’s statement corroborated the findings of the five-member team of the CID, sources said.
A silver finger ring seized from the crime spot has been one of the key evidence in the case.
