Bhubaneswar: The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) on Thursday granted conditional market approval for COVID-19 vaccines, Covishield and Covaxin, for use in adult population with certain conditions.
The vaccines, however, will not be available at medical stores. Hospitals and clinics can purchase the vaccines.
The approval has been granted under the New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules, 2019.
The price of these vaccines of Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech is likely to be capped at Rs 275 per dose plus an additional service charge of Rs 150, the PTI reported quoting official sources.
Both the vaccines are currently only authorised for emergency use in India. While Covaxin is priced at Rs 1,200 per dose, Covishield costs Rs 780 at private facilities.
