Cong Leader Held For Illegal Firearms Trade In Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: A Congress leader of Ganjam district was arrested on Thursday in connection with illegal firearm trade.

Briefing the media, Additional SP, Ganjam, Thakur Prasad Patra said police were on the lookout for Amir Kumar Bhuyan, a Congress leader and chairman of Ganjam District OBC Cell, who was into illegal firearm trading for the last few years.

“However, acting on a tip-off on Thursday, a team of Aska Police intercepted his vehicle at Paklapalli check gate and seized two mousers and 10 live bullets from his vehicle. During interrogation, Bhuyan said one of his friends had kept the firearms in his vehicle without his knowledge,” Patra said.

He said police have arrested Bhuyan and will forward him to the court later in the day after an interrogation.
