Congress March: Priyanka Gandhi Detained By Police, Rahul Meets President On Farm Laws

New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and some other Congress leaders were stopped and detained by police on Thursday when they were marching to Rashtrapati Bhavan to meet President Ram Nath Kovind over the contentious farm laws.

Describing it as a government tactic to crush dissent, Priyanka said: “Any dissent against this government is classified as having elements of terror. We are undertaking this march to voice our support for the farmers.”

“We’re in a democracy, what’s the problem?” Priyanka was quoted as saying by ANI. Priyanka and other leaders were taken to the Mandir Marg police station.

Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury were, however, allowed to meet President Kovind. The Congress delegation demanded withdrawal of the three farm laws.

“We told the President that the laws are anti-farmer and that farmers and labourers will suffer due to them. The government said these laws are in favour of the farmers, but the country is seeing that farmers are against these laws,” Rahul Gandhi said.

On Priyanka’s detention, Rahul said that there’s no democracy in India under the Modi regime.

“There is no democracy in India. It can be in your imagination, but not in reality,” he said.
