Ludhiana: Congress on Friday suspended its Lok Sabha MP Preneet Kaur, wife of former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh, for alleged anti-party activities to favour the BJP.

The party’s Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) took the decision after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge received a complaint from the state’s Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.

“Hon’ble Congress President has received a complaint from Shri Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, President, PCC Punjab alleging that Smt. Preneet Kaur, MP (Lok Sabha) from Patiala is indulging in anti-party activities to help BJP. Some other senior Congress leaders of Punjab also share this view. The complaint was referred to the Disciplinary Action Committee of the AICC for necessary action. The DAC carefully considered it and decided that Smt. Preneet Kaur, MP (Lok Sabha) from Patiala, should be suspended from the Party with immediate effect,” Congress stated in a press release.

Preneet has been asked to show cause within 3 days as to why she should not be suspended from the Congress party.

“The party was getting regular complaints about Preneet Kaur indulging in anti-party activities & party’s state unit was demanding disciplinary action against her,” Congress leader Tariq Anwar told ANI.

Captain Amarinder resigned from Congress in November 2021 and formed his own party — Punjab Lok Congress — ahead of Punjab Assembly elections, which took place last February.

After Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won the elections with over three-fourths majority – 92 out of 117 seats — Amarinder merged his party with the BJP.
