New Delhi Indian National Congress (INC) interim president Sonia Gandhi on Monday announced that the Congress party in every state will bear the cost of railway travel undertaken by needy migrant workers to reach their homes.
Taking a jibe at the government’s move wherein it spent Rs 100 crore to transport and provide food for people for one public event in Gujarat, the party president said that the same courtesy could have been extended to the workers.
“The Indian National Congress has, therefore, taken a decision that every Pradesh Congress Committee will bear the cost for the rail travel of every needy worker and migrant labourer and will take necessary steps in this regard. This will be the Indian National Congress’s humble contribution in service of our compatriots and to stand shoulder to shoulder in solidarity with them,” Gandhi said in her statement.
