Bhubaneswar: Attributing BJP’s victory in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to alleged money power, Congress on Sunday claimed that it will register an impressive win in the next Assembly election in Odisha as it did in Telangana.
Speaking to reporters in Bhubaneswar, veteran Congress leader and MLA Suresh Routray said that the party is gearing up for the 2024 elections to ensure its victory in Odisha. The party will use the same strategy it adopted for Telangana Assembly polls, he said.
Stating that the party is set to organise a big public meeting in Bhubaneswar towards the end of this month, the senior Congress leader said both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are expected to attend the rally to boost the party’s prospects in Odisha.
More than two lakh people, including farmers, women and members of tribal communities, would attend the mega meeting, Routray said, adding that the main contest in the next Odisha Assembly election will be between Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress.
This apart, Congress is all set to launch a mass contact programme to make people aware of the problems relating to growing unemployment, farmers’ issues, corruption, crime scenario and deteriorating law and order situation.
Referring to BJP’s win in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the Congress leader accused the saffron party of using money power to influence the voters.
Moreover, infighting in the party primarily led to the defeat of Congress in Rajasthan, he said, adding that it had its impact on Madhya Pradesh Assembly election too.
However, Congress came out with flying colours in Telangana and the same show will be repeated in Odisha in 2024, the Congress legislator said.
