Bhubaneswar: The Congress has called six-hour Odisha bandh on Friday to press for its demand for the resignation of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged link with the prime accused in the sensational Mamita Meher murder case, Govind Sahu.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Congress spokesman Debasish Patnaik said the party has limited the bandh to 6 hours in order not to affect the livelihood of daily workers who have been severely hit economically by the COVID pandemic and resultant shutdown.
He said Congress will observe the bandh across the state from 6 am to 12 noon. Appealing to the people to cooperate with the party during the bandh, he said its workers will stage road blockades and rail roko at several places.
Besides, the party activists will move around to enforce closure of shops and business establishments, offices, educational institutions and petrol pumps during the shutdown.
However, emergency services will be excluded from the bandh. Hospitals and ambulance and Fire services will not be affected by the bandh.
It may be noted that 24-year-old Mamita Meher, who worked as a teacher of Sunshine Model School at Mahaling in Kalahandi district, was murdered and her body buried in the under-construction stadium of the school.
Her body was exhumed on October 19. Her family had filed a police case after Mamita went missing on October 8.
