New Delhi: Another Indian politician has sparked a controversy with an avoidable comment.
Five days ahead of the Presidential elections, Congress party’s Ajoy Kumar said that NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu represents an evil philosophy.
“Yashwant Sinha (Opposition presidential candidate) is a good candidate. Droupadi Murmu is a decent person but she represents an evil philosophy of India. We shouldn’t make her a symbol of tribals… Ram Nath Kovind is President but atrocities are happening against SCs. Modi government is fooling people,” Kumar told ANI.
The former IPS officer opined that Droupadi should not be made a representative of tribals.
Currently AICC in-charge of Tripura, Nagaland and Sikkim, Kumar accused the Narendra Modi government of fooling the people. He said despite Ram Nath Kovind, who belongs to Scheduled Caste community, being President of India, atrocities against them have not stopped.
In fact, he alleged that the condition of Scheduled Castes has become “worse” over the last few years.
“Creating symbols and fooling the people of India is what the Modi government is all about. This is a fight for the soul of the nation and all like-minded parties should vote for Yashwant Sinha,” he urged.
“At a time when the NDA, led by PM Modi, has announced Smt Draupadi Murmu, a woman from Adivasi samaj, as its nominee for the President’s office, a move that will significantly empower the Tribals, Congress leader calls her evil by association! Just because she is a Tribal. Shame,” BJP’s IT cell in-charge Amit Malviya tweeted.
BJP’s national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala accusing the Congress of insulting India’s first woman tribal President candidate.
The election for India’s 15th President will be held on July 18. If Droupadi Murmu wins the election, she will become the country’s first tribal President and also the second woman after Pratibha Patil.
