Berhampur: A sub-inspector (SI) of police has been transferred and a probe ordered against him for allegedly thrashing a divyang during a raid at Shyamsundar village in Khallikote area of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
According to sources, the victim, Rajendra Nahak, sustained multiple injuries after being beaten up SI Himanshu Patra and constable Rudra Bhatamishra as they raided the village relating to illegal storage of firecrackers. “They beat me up with my walking stick. I am unable to raise my hand,” he said.
He later lodged a complaint with Ganjam SP Jagmohan Meena.
Based on the allegations, Patra was transferred to the district police headquarters and a team led by Chhatrapur SDPO constituted to conduct a detailed probe into the matter. “The Chhatrapur SDPO would conduct a probe into the incident. To ensure an impartial probe, the accused SI, who was leading the team, has been withdrawn to the police headquarters. Further action will be taken on the basis of the inquiry report,” the SP said.
