Berhampur: The Ganjam district administration launched convalescent plasma therapy to treat COVID-19 patients on Tuesday.
In the first phase, six blood plasma units were brought from a plasma bank set up at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. “The plasma would be administered to patients in four COVID hospitals in the district,” Ganjam Collector Vijay Amrit Kulange said.
In a video-conference with medical and other district officials on Monday, the collector had informed that plasma therapy has already started in Odisha and some patients have even recovered after receiving this treatment.
As Ganjam has the highest number of cured patients, Kulange had earlier directed the officials to gather details including blood group of recovered persons in their respective areas and approach them to donate plasma.
Convalescent plasma therapy is a procedure that involves the use of antibodies from the blood of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 to treat other infected people.
