Bengaluru: Failing to cope with the trauma of testing positive for COVID-19, an auto rickshaw driver committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Syed Babu, a resident of Tilaknagar locality in Bengaluru.
According to reports, Babu had tested positive for coronavirus on April 24. He was kept in an isolation ward of the hospital and his family was quarantined in a hotel.
On Monday morning, he had asked for a plate of idli for breakfast. When the hospital staff went out to get it for him, he took the emergency exit to the terrace and jumped to his death.
According to sources, Babu was shaken and depressed after the death of another COVID-19 patient in the same ward.
A police officer said, “An investigation is being conducted by the hospital. After getting their report, we will conduct our own investigation. Entry to the quarantine wards is restricted to designated doctors, nurses and paramedical staff. Police staff are deputed far away.”
