Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday said that 115 persons suspected to be afflicted with Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) are under home quarantine as a precautionary measure.
Briefing mediapersons after a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan here, Director Medical Education & Training (DMET), CBK Mohanty said it was decided to step up awareness among the people about the precautionary measures against the Coronavirus.
The meeting was presided over by the principal secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Nikunja Bihari Dhal.
While Kerala, Telangana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have reported confirmed cases of Coronavirus, no suspected person has tested positive in Odisha so far, he said.
“The state government is aware that 28 people, including 16 Italian nationals, have tested coronavirus positive in India by Wednesday and is, therefore, keeping a close watch on the situation and taking all possible steps for its prevention,” Mohanty said.
A total of 115 people with symptoms of Coronavirus are under home quarantine after returning from China and its neighbouring countries, he said.
A couple from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh has been kept in the isolation ward of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their arrival in a cargo ship from China. “The swab and blood samples of the couple will be sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune today,” he pointed out.
Referring to the awareness programme on Coronavirus, the DMET said that the campaigns will be run on electronic media.
