Coronavirus Threat: Odd-Even Scheme For Public Transport Vehicles In Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: In view of the coronavirus threat, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday decided to adopt the odd-even scheme for public transport services to restrict plying of vehicles on roads.
This would be effective from Saturday until further orders.
Official sources said buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws will be allowed to ply on alternate days. While public transport vehicles having odd registration numbers can ply on the roads on odd numbered days, those having even registration numbers can hit the roads on even numbered days.
However, the BMC restrictions would not apply to private vehicles or other types of government or hired vehicles. There would also be no bar on government, private or hospital vehicles used for emergency services, the sources added.
Such a practice had earlier been followed in New Delhi to control pollution.
