Bhubaneswar: Corporator from Bhubaneswar’s Ward No 65 Rashmi Ranjan Patasani has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a violent sword attack.
The incident unfolded late at night in front of Bhagabanpur Café under the jurisdiction of Tamando Police Station, sending shockwaves across the city’s political and civic circles.
Police sources said Patasani, widely known as Shambhu, was involved in the attack where deadly weapons, including a sword, were used to intimidate and assault individuals. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos as the corporator, accompanied by associates, allegedly brandished the weapon in public, escalating tensions in the area.
The Tamando Police swiftly launched an investigation, registering a case under multiple sections related to attempted murder, unlawful assembly and possession of dangerous weapons. Following evidence collection and witness statements, Patasani was taken into custody and has been forwarded to court.
Earlier, police had arrested four persons, including a minor, in connection with Monday late night’s violence outside the café at Patrapada under Tamando police limits of the city.
CCTV footage from the location captured the gang brandishing weapons and carrying out the assault, providing crucial evidence for police.
A special squad of Bhubaneswar police have launched a manhunt to nab another accused Aditya Behera aloas Bunty, the sources added.
