Drones are the threat of the season.

Ever since a daring drone attack on an Air Force station in Jammu was foiled six weeks ago, India has been on alert vis-à-vis unmanned vehicles which are considered to be the new security threat.

Moving with the times, India will get a first-of-its-kind Drone Forensic Lab and Research Centre on Friday at Thiruvananthapuram.

CyberDome, a technological research and development centre of Kerala Police, will be inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Additional DGP, Thiruvananthapuram Range Manoj Abraham, who is the nodal officer of CyberDome, informed that this lab-cum-research centre will deal with utility and threat aspects of a drone.

“While analysing a drone at the research centre, we’ll look into its origin, see its utility value such as using it for policing and devising anti-drone mechanisms to check its misuse as we saw in the case of drone activities at the border,” Abraham said.

According to Kerala Police chief Anil Kant, the state unit may also collaborate with the Union government in the research sector.
