Mumbai: The counting of votes is underway for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra. Around 50 per cent voters had exercised their franchise on Thursday. The spotlight is on Mumbai as the BJP-led Mahayuti bloc is locked in a prestige battle with the reunited Thackeray cousins for Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls.
Polling for 2,869 seats spread across 893 wards in these municipal corporations, including, according to a Hindu report. As many as 15,931 candidates are in the fray in 29 civic corporations, which had 3.48 crore eligible voters, reported the Hindu.

The Thackeray cousins, who reunited after two decades ahead of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls, are behind the ruling alliance in Mumbai.
Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena-UBT is leading in 29 wards and Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is ahead in just 2 wards, according to early trends cited in an NDTV report.
On the other hand, the BJP is leading in 42 of the 227 wards, while Shiv Sena, led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, is leading in 13 wards, the report claims.
