Berhampur: Around 1,400 litre of adulterated country liquor was sized in a joint raid by the Excise officials and police personnel in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Saturday.
According to sources, on the basis of reliable information about production of the country liquor, the Excise officials with the help of local police carried out the raid in Patrapur area under Jarada police station of the district.
Besides Patrapur, the raid was carried out in nearby villages of Mashani Bada, Tadakasahi, Haripur, and Thangam. During the raid, adulterated country liquor and raw materials for its production in huge quantity were seized by the team.
The officials seized 27,000 litre of raw materials including molasses and other ingredients besides 1,400 litre of produced country-made liquor. They also seized equipment including drums and utensils used in the production. The sources said the country liquor was produced without any permission in forest areas and along water bodies.
The total value of the seized liquor and other materials was estimated to be Rs 17 lakh, the sources added.
