Keonjhar: Three members of a family were killed after a truck dashed against their motorcycle on National Highway-49 in Telkoi area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Wednesday morning.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place at Jagmohan Chhak on the highway when the family members were travelling on a bike.
The deceased have been identified as Tankadhara Patra, his wife, and their 11-year-old daughter. They hailed from Bahadapashi village under Barkote police limits in Deogarh district.
Sources said they were proceeding to drop the girl at an educational institution when the speeding truck rammed into their bike from behind, causing them to fall onto the road. They were crushed to death as the truck ran over them.
Angry over the accident, locals blocked NH-49 in protest, demanding action against reckless driving and enforcement of better road safety measures. A police team from Telkoi visited the scene shortly after being informed and launched an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the truck involved in the accident has reportedly been seized near the Janasanpur toll gate. Further details are awaited.
