The autopsy report stated that Manju was strangled to death about 18 hours before she was admitted to the hospital. This led the police to register a murder case and arrested Manoj.
After hearing the case and deposition of the witnesses, District and Sessions Judge Rupashree Chowdhury convicted Manoj and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
