New Delhi: Around 8,000 people have been tested for novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours across India, the highest in a single day. This was disclosed by the Union Health Ministry during its daily briefing on the COVID-19 situation in the country on Friday.
According to the ministry, there are 2301 confirmed coronavirus cases in India, of which 56 have died while 156 have recovered. Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are the worst-affected states with 423 and 309 positive cases, respectively.
The rising number of tests is a welcome development as many experts are of the opinion that it’s one of the best ways to monitor and control the spread of the disease. More than 1 million people have so far been infected by coronavirus across the world with the number of deaths exceeding 54,000.
