COVID-19: China’s Wuhan To Test ‘All Residents’
Beijing: Chinese authorities decided to test the entire Wuhan population for COVID-19 as the central city reported its first positive case in over a year.
The city is “swiftly launching comprehensive nucleic acid testing of all residents”, senior Wuhan official Li Tao was quoted as saying at a press conference by news agency AFP on Tuesday.
According to the authorities’ announcement on Monday, migrant workers in the city have reported seven locally transmitted infections, breaking a year-long streak without domestic cases.
The residents of the entire city have been confined to their homes, domestic transport links have been cut and mass testing have been rolled out to battle the latest outbreak.
China saw 61 domestic cases reported on Tuesday as an outbreak of the Delta variant reached dozens of cities. This was after infections among airport cleaners in Nanjing triggered a chain of cases reported across the country.
